Features and function
Medifit syrup is dietetic product, a dietary supplement and its a traditional herbal medicinal product used as a demulcent for the symptomatic treatment of oral or pharyngeal irritations and associated dry cough. It contains Ribwort plantain infus and mucilage from Marshmallow root.

Ribwort plantain
Ribwort plantain leaf consists of the dried leaves of Plantago lanceolata L., Plantaginaceae. It consists not less than 1,5 per cent of total ortho–dihydroxycinnamic acid derivates, expressed as acteoside and calculated with respect to the dried drug. The characteristic constituens are mucilage polysaccharides, iridoide glycosides (principally aucubin and catalpol) and phenylethanoids (acteoside, isoacteoside and plantamajoside). Ribwort plantain is used to alleviate irritation in catarrh of the upper respiratory tract. Ribwort plantain leaf and its characteristic constituens exert anti–inflammatory, antibacterial, spasmolytic and immunostimulatory effects. The pharmacologically active constituens are considered to be mucilage polysaccharides, irridoide glycosides and phenylethanoids. German Commission E has approved use of the Ribwort plantain for catarrh of the respiratory passages, inflammation of the mucosus membranes of the mouth and throat.

Marshmallow root
Marshmallow root contains 5–10% mucilage (depending greatly on the time of the harvesting and on the further processing), a mixture mainly of acidic polysacchaides comprising an arabinan, glucans and an rhamnogalacturonan. Pectin, sugars, asparagine and small amounts of sterols are also present. Marshmallow root is antitusive and it is used especially for irritable coughs and catarrhal inflammation of the throat, but not as an expectorant. The total extract and the polysaccharide fraction have both been shown to produce a statistically significant cough–suppressant effect. German Commission E has approved use of the Marshmallow root for inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat and the associated irritabile dry cough and mild inflammation of the gastric mucosa also.

Dosage and administration
Adults take 15 ml three times a day. Small children take teaspoon 5 ml three times a day, and infants take 2,5 ml three times a day. Children under the age of 12 months can take Medifit syrup only if it’s recommended by doctor.

Storage
Keep at temperature of 25 ºC. Close the bottle after each use.
